'Allo Cupcake! Amigurumi tutorial

carl.jpgMan, I love cupcakes so much. I love to bake them, eating them, embroidering them on things...Last year, I made Carl the Cupcake to sell on my etsy site and I had tons of requests for a tutorial. So here it is!

I used a size H (5.00mm) crochet hook, Patons' Divine for the icing (but you could use any kind of fuzzy, textured yarn) and Lion Brand Lion Wool for the bottom.

CUPCAKE BODY (beginning with icing color)

Row 1: Ch 2, sc 6 times in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker.

Row 2: 2 sc in each st around, to marker.

Row 3: *Sc in first st, 2 sc in next stitch*; repeat from * to * to marker.

Row 4: *Sc in first 2 st, 2 sc in next stitch*; repeat from * to * to marker

Row 5: *Sc in first 3 st, 2 sc in next st*; repeat from * to * to marker.

Rows 6, 7 & 8: Sc in each st around, to marker.

Join new color.

Rows 9, 10, 11, 12 &13: (with new color): Sc in each st around, to marker.

Row 14: *Decrease, sc in next 3 st*; repeat from * to * to marker.

Rows 15 & 16: Sc in each st around, to marker. Fasten off.

Now you have the top half of your cupcake all finito! Stuff it up as fat as you like and get ready to make the bottom piece.

BOTTOM PIECE (with new color - it's just a flat little circle):

Row 1: Ch 2, sc 6 times in 2nd ch from hook. Place marker.

Row 2: 2 sc in each st around, to marker.

Row 3: *Sc in first st, 2 sc in next stitch*; repeat from * to * to marker.

Row 4: *Sc in first 2 st, 2 sc in next stitch*; repeat from * to * to marker

Row 5: *Sc in first 3 st, 2 sc in next st*; repeat from * to * to marker. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Take your stuffed cupcake, and whipstitch the bottom piece to it, sealing up the hole. Voila! You have a cupcake, to decorate however you like.

  • Terri

That is perhaps the cutest cupcake ever!

  • That's very cute, Sally! I make one that's pretty similar in shape, with fuzzy yarn on top too, but it doesn't have the little arms or a face like that. Nice touches! Mmm, cupcakes. :-)
