Crafty Cleanup '07 - Pt. 1

mess.jpgHow many times has this happened to you: a brilliant creative idea strikes. You’re dying of excitement to start. You approach your craft room/space/table, full of glee, but your heart slowly sinks as you realize that a giant craft bomb has exploded and there's no way you're going to get anything accomplished.

You’re not alone! This picture is of the sad, sad current state of my very own craft room/dumping ground. So as I embark on a massive cleanup effort, I challenge you to do the same! And just in case you need more convincing, here are a few things to consider:

-Organizing can be a great stashbuster. Use scrap fabric, yarn and goodies to make supply cases, bags, and pouches.
-Cleaning up can be as good as a trip to the store. Unless your space is sorted, you really have no idea what’s in your stash. You’ve probably forgotten all about that cute fabric or new magazine you bought on last month’s shopping trip because it’s buried under everything else.
-Cleanliness breeds creativity. When you don’t have a giant mess impeding your progress, you’ll be amazed how the ideas flow!
-Tidying reduces crafty pressure. I am, of course, referring to your arm’s length project list of all the things you intend to eventually do. That thrift store shirt you got eight months ago and had big plans for? The slowly-growing sack of yarn ends? A year’s worth of fabric scraps? It’s okay to let them go. Give 'em to charity or see if you can find someone to swap with.

Keep checking in for more ways to organize your space. Happy cleaning!

Oh, Sally, this is definitely something I needed to read! My own art room has, since a recent move, been nothing but boxes and clutter. Thanks for spurring me on to get things organized (and usable)!
