Making a duct tape wallet

DWallet1.JPGThe duct tape wallet has been a staple of alternative culture for years now. So, of course, I’m only just now getting round to making one. I found some fabulous purple and pink duct tape at the hardware store and knew the time had come.

To make this wallet, I mostly followed the instructions on this entry over at Instructables.com. It took about half an hour to make, even with my extra pocket modification.

And, of course, I had to make it a little fun. If you use a sharp blade, you can easily cut designs out of a layer of duct tape. Lay it over a contrasting color of duct tape, and you’ve got a fabulous in-lay effect.

The hardest part of all of this is keeping the duct tape from sticking to your fingers. I wish I had a tip for you but that’s pretty unavoidable. Take heart, though. If you’re using a good quality duct tape, you can pull it back up from where it stuck to your worktable and it will still stick quite firmly to the proper place in your new wallet.

It’s a shame money won’t stick in my wallet as well as the duct tape!
