Meet the bloggers: Nichola Prested
Hey there! I'm Nichola Prested, known online as 'nikkishell'. I'm a 28-year-old married mother of two girls under the age of three, and I founded the Wardrobe Refashioned blog. Originally from the UK, I emigrated to Melbourne, Australia in October 2004 to live my dream. I have always been interested in arts and crafts, and studied Art, sculpture and photography at college. My main creative interest is sewing but I'm also known to dabble in knitting, crochet and a range of other crafts too.
I started small with my sewing, making bags, kids' clothes and knitting needle rolls, then tried sewing some cothes for myself. Wanting to better my skills and be more environmentally friendly, I then set myself the challenge of not buying any new, manufactured clothing for six months, but to sew, refashion or recycle everything I wore. I asked readers of my blog whether they'd be interested in joining me on my crazy adventure and this is how Wardrobe Refashion was born. The group blog is going strong, and has a large following of Refashionistas. I'm proud that it has influenced people all over the world and that I haven't bought any new manufactured clothes for over a year now. I'm big on refashioning, recycling and re-using, so you'll see a lot of this in my posts.
This year I'm expanding into quilting, more complex clothing and selling my items. I find inspiration in all kinds of sources, including blogs, other crafters, artists, magazines, websites, books and most importantly, daily life.
