I am all for reusing materials, so I was excited when I found this Light Bulb Vase project. I even have some burnt-out light bulbs that I could use. But now I’m wondering just how safe this project is and I am reconsidering my initial excitement.
Recycling materials is awesome. It’s good for the environment AND for the crafter. Recycled materials promise to be unique and to help the crafter tell an interesting story. But recycled materials must also be considered for appropriateness.
Now, I’m not saying we all need to be afraid of materials. Not at all! But I live in an older house and the floors shake a bit anytime anyone walks through. I also have two crazy cats and a boyfriend who is sometimes absent-mindedly clumsy. And I’ve stepped on too many shards of glass to look forward to the day my Light Bulb Vase breaks.
And so I won’t be making this craft. As awesome as the photo is, it’s just not a material suited to my environment. I do hope someone, who lives in a stable house with sedate pets and graceful housemates, will make this, though.
