Scary knitted animals

Who said knitted critters had to be based on the cute, fluffy species of the animal kingdom? Certainly not Anna Hrachovec, who made this delightful mouse-eating snake. Sleepy Snake and Mischievous Mouse (who are 'best friends', according to the artist's blog!) are just two of the denizens of Mochi Mochi land, her freaky knitted menagerie. But each creature is adorable in its own way, so maybe knitting creepy crawlies and other scary animals is a good way to make us love them?
To test that theory, I've found a few more knitted equivalents of the sort of creature that many of us want to squish or run away from, and the only way I want to squish these ones is with love! This knitted spider, for example, is huggable even to an arachnophobe like me, and you can buy him on Etsy.

For some seriously scary crocheted items and patterns, look no further than Monster Crochet. Who knows what kinds of thoughts go through LadyLinoleum's brain or what strange dreams lead her to conjure up such crazy crocheted creations, but we're all grateful that she - and her wonderful, grisly masterpieces - exist in the world. It would be a whole lot less bonkers without her. Her 'dem bones' scarf (below) is particularly wonderful.

Perhaps a bit more sinister (and likely to land any nearby children in therapy) are these 'see through predators' by Lizette Greco. Fill the big bag wolf's 'pouch' with a selection of smaller soft toys including a bird, bunny and even a little girl - oh my! There's evem a video showing the recovery procedure here. Don't have nightmares...
