I spend a lot of time wandering the aisles of my favorite art supply store. But this store doesn’t have paint or paper or anything you might expect. Skycraft Parts and Surplus (in Orlando, FL, and on the web) is a surplus store. That means they sell parts and pieces and all sorts of odds and ends. If you ever need to build a space ship, this is the place you would go for parts.
Almost every Saturday morning, I wander the aisles and see what new treasures I can find. I also pick up some staples – well, they are staples for me. C rings and bushings and lots of metal parts that will find new life in the jewelry I make.
No matter where you live, there is probably a surplus store near you where electronics hobbyists buy their supplies. Don’t be afraid to poke around. You never know when something is going to be just perfect for that new project you’ve been working on.
