With an old pair of jeans you can very easily have a fun new handbag. We all know that women love accessories and I’m no different. In fact I would have to say that two of my major loves in life are shoes and handbags. The more I have, the happier I am. So when ever I have a spare afternoon and the sewing machine is available I, most often than not, sew a new handbag. I have over 50 handbags, is it time I call myself an addict?
Anyway, making a bag out of jeans is fantastic because: you don’t need to sew on pockets (Levi Strauss has already taken care of that), it doesn’t get dirty easily, is quick and very easy to do and it goes with absolutely any casual outfit.
All you do is:
1. Cut two identical squares / rectangles out of the jeans
2. Place the squares on top of each other so that the right side of the material is facing each other
3. Using a sewing machine sew around three edges to create the bag. (You will be sewing the bag inside out)
4. Use the seam that runs down the side of your jeans to create the handle.
5. Sew the one end of the handle along the one to the one side of the bag
6. Then sew the other end of the handle to the opposite side of the bag
7. Turn the bag inside out and there you have it!
I hand-stitched this bag years ago (it is so much easier to do it by machine) and whenever I wear it out I get so many compliments!
