Geek Craft: Nintendo Street Art

mariopole.jpgThe video games that we know and love are slowly creeping into our public spaces - and I think it's awesome. In Seattle, this work was created from stapling squares of paper to a utility pole to create a wrap around scene from the Super Mario Bros. game! This looks like it would have taken a long time to create but the end result is amazing urban art in all of it's pixelated glory.

Thankfully, this appears to be a growing trend: Nintendogal spotted a whole bunch of elaborate Mario painted murals while visiting Montreal. TheFunkyHorror shows off a whole online photo album of city street objects in Norway that have been tagged with various painted 8-bit characters. Various users on LiveJournal are tracking a rumoured 100 different painted Yoshi Eggs around Pittsburgh. You never know, your city could be the next to be invaded by the Mushroom Kingdom!
