Innocent Smoothies Supergran Campaign: Tiny Bobble Hats
Teeny tiny hats for teeny tiny bottles of smoothies may sound like a bizarre idea, but Innocent Smoothies Supergran campaign has turned knitting for bottles into a bit of a trendy undertaking. And you get to raise money for Age Concern too.
Last year Innocent Smoothies sold 230,000 behatted bottles. The tiny hats were knit by folks from all over the world (I knit one at their Fruitstock festival in London last summer). They raised a staggering £115,00 for Age Concern. And this year they plan to raise even more.
Supergran 2007 kicks off right now and it is easy peasy to create a woolly little hat of your very own. Innocent are sending out free patterns left, right and centre to knitting groups all over, but you can also find the simple pattern online. It takes no time at all to knit up a hat, and once you have knit one it is hard to stop. Since they are so quick to make, people start getting very creative. They even have their own flickr gallery for folks to post their creations on. Some of them are jaw-droppingly amazing. And if that doesn’t get your competitive (but charitable) juices flowing then there is also the Hat of the Week page. If they love your hat enough it will be featured in pride of place on their site. Hurrah!
Age Concern is a worthy cause, which is brought home when you are told that almost 25,000 older people died of cold-related illnesses last winter. For each hat-wearing smoothie sold, Innocent will donate 50p to the charity. This helps provide services that support older people in winter, including hot meals, room thermometers, warm blankets, safety checking electric blankets, and advice on how to handle rising energy costs. And there is a video you can watch too.
So join Innocent in knitting their Supergran hats and help make the world a cosier place. Well, how often do you get to say they are selling your knitting in the local supermarket?
