Meet the bloggers: Malorie Noel

malorie%20noel.JPGAs Cecil B. DeMille put it “Creativity is a drug I cannot live without".
Bonjour, I am Malorie, a 22 year old South African who has made the sunny, tropical island of Mauritius her home.

For as long as I can remember my drug of choice has been creativity and if brought forward to a court of law the charges laid against me would be: painting, drawing, pottery, knitting & crocheting, jewellery making, sewing, cross stitch, embroidery, decoupage, mosaic and basically fabricating something of some sort. I am also guilty of hording everything and anything that can be somehow transformed into a work of art or craft. I love experimenting with all sorts of materials and also enjoy combining them i.e: drawing with shoe polish or combining powder paint with wood glue.

Arts and Crafts consume my life and no matter where I’m going it is guaranteed that I always have something that is “Malorie-made” on me… whether it is my handbag, clothing or accessories, there has to be something that is original or else the outfit is not complete.

While in London recently I was fortunate enough to join the London’s biggest knitting group Stitch and Bitch London (thanks to most of my cousins who had already given in to the knit) and now I have officially become a “knitting addict”. On returning home most of my friends and family did not believe this new addiction until I opened my suitcase. The inner pocket of the lid of the suitcase was bursting with colourful wool, needles and tiny creations I had produced. I adore knitting teddy bears and little characters and it is so much fun seeing the way that they come together. Before you know it you have created a new furry, stuffed friend to love and adore.

Currently arts and crafts are cunningly creeping their way into my professional life too… not that I mind at all! (I mean, give me something creative to do morning, noon and night, and I’ll consider myself the happiest girl alive!). I am in the process of opening an art and craft studio in the north of Mauritius where I will be giving lessons and workshops to anyone who wishes to develop a new skill (be it a beginner or a full blown professional). I would also like to start Stitch and Bitch Mauritius… gathering anyone who would like to knit, stitch and of course bitch under the coco-nut trees while sipping mojitios and pina coladas.

So if you are ever find yourself walking along the streets of Grand Bay and looking at the enchanting blue lagoon but have the urge for the drug of creativity – give me a shout!

Hi Malorie
What a brill idea it is opening up an art and craft studio - so right for you - I am so green envy. I hope it won't be too many months before I helping you out with sipping those Mojitos.
