I'm really quite taken with these enchanting, mixed-media landscape pieces; the work of Oregon-based artist Rachel Austin. While the compositions are evocative and well chosen in themselves, it's the variety of materials used that makes the work really different.
The mixed media section of her website shows the range of Rachel's innovative talent. The method she uses incorporates maps and layers of transparent paint on wood panels. There are currently 70 of these 'map paintings' available on Etsy, and the gallery is well worth a look, even just to get some inspiration.
