Monday Inspiration: Elizabeth Zimmermann

ez.jpgAre you familiar with Elizabeth Zimmermann? She was the wonderful woman who did much to popularize and revolutionize knitting. Zimmermann (1910-1999), known as EZ to knitters worldwide, had a fresh and inventive way of explaining knitting concepts that made them accessible and exciting. Her books continue to be among the best available today. If you want to gain a good understanding of how to construct knitted garments, pick up a copy of her book Knitting Without Tears or the DVD of her Knitting Workshop, a television series from the early 1980s.

Her wit and personality come through clearly, and her conversational style is entertaining and easy to understand. Her sense of creativity is truly inspirational. Zimmermann came from Britain and later lived in the U.S. where she ran a popular Knitting Camp. Her daughter, Meg Swansen, is a famous knitter in her own right. Elizabeth Zimmermann, the "Opinionated Knitter," continues to influence knitters of all ages.
