Yay or nay: Swarovski crystal-encrusted mug warmers
OK, we all approve of craft round here, for obvious reasons. But I think there has to come a time when a hobby becomes an unhealthy obsession, and for me, that point is reached when you start making mug-cozies and festooning them with Swarovski crystals!
On the one hand, I can see that these warmers are a very worthwhile little invention: they fit round disposable coffee cups so you won't want to throw them away and contribute to environmental mess, and this is a very good thing. But wouldn't it be better to simply use a non disposable cup in the first place? I'm not convinced that putting one of these cozies around an old disposable mug is going to make me any more attached to it than I was already, and aren't people more likely to just transfer them on to a new mug each time they get sold one? Crazy. But maybe I'm just being a bit of a stick-in-the-mud on this one. And to prove I'm not singling out one particular seller here, there's quite a range of the things cropping up at the moment, from granny-style knitted ones to emo-style punk ones. Yay or nay?
I'm with you on these being pretty useless, but then again, anything with the word "cozy" in it usually is.
Tampon crafts are my personal "craft has gone too far" barrier, though.
