Every few weeks I get an email from Instructables.com featuring some of the newest and coolest instructables. This time around they were featuring Ia's Fire Skirt. She orginally designed this as a way to be safe and visible at Burning Man but it is appropriate for nighttime wear in almost any setting.

Electroluminescent wire looks similar to neon but is a flexible and relatively easy to work with material. Any garment designed to feature EL wire needs to contain a space for a power supply. The power supplies are small and can run off of AA batteries - combine that with a long glow-life and you can be brightening up dance floors for hours on end.

A few people have expressed concerns about radiation emitted from EL wire, but all the information I can find about it points to it being safer than using a cellphone.

Time to order some wire and start designing something hot!
