Beep! Who's this little fellow? He's a new robot that I made. Standing just 10 cm (4") tall (13 cm / 5" with the antenna), the figure is made of worsted weight acrylic yarn, and is mostly crocheted, with a few knitted and embroidered parts.
The body is crocheted in the round using a 4 mm hook; the upper arms and wheels are done with the same technique. The lower arms are two rows of straight single crochet, while the antenna is a piece of i-cord, made on a little knitting spool.
The square over the belly is a piece of knitted stockinette, made with 3 mm needles, with the reverse (purl) side facing outwards. This square was meant to look like a panel with buttons to push on it, but it turned out looking more like an apron. (That's okay: I think this must be a house-cleaning robot, which is always handy around the house.) The facial features and the pink buttons are embroidered.
I followed no pattern, and just made the robot up as I went. It's a very fun and easy thing to do, so I encourage you to give it a try. Remember, amigurumi can be knitted or crocheted -- or, as shown here, both -- and robots are a great subject because they don't have to be any particular shape, and will always benefit from your spontaneous creativity.
