It may surprise you to learn that some parts of the knitting world are up in arms all of a sudden. And it is all due to tiny squares of malted squares of whole grain wheat.
The people who make the breakfast cereal Shreddies have launched an ad campaign that portrays little old ladies knitting breakfast cereal. The advert shows nanas producing perfect tasty squares of cereal on their needles. Betty, their top knitter, surveys it all with her eagle eye. And at the end of the ad we are told “Eat up, we’ll knit more!”. You can see the advert in its full glory here.
I don’t know about you but I personally love the idea that Shreddies is knit by little old dears.
I know that grannies and knitting lean towards the stereo-type, and that is what is making some people feel a bit miffed. Yes, plenty of us young uns knit too, but you have to admit that it is a funny ad.
You have to be honest: grannies do knit and most of them do it very well. It is not like they are saying only grannies knit. It is just that they if anyone was going to have the skills to knit breakfast cereal it would be grannies. And come on, folks. They're right about that. I wouldn’t fancy going needle to needle in a knit off with my granny!
It is great to see any knitting on TV too. Anything to remind people that many fabulous things can be made with sticks and string (though I am not sure you can eat much of it).
