The newest issue of Craft magazine is showing up in subscriber mailboxes and, wow, was I thrilled to find my copy last night. It doesn't hit the news stands until August 7th, so consider this a sneak peek!
The police tape scarf featured on the cover has actually been floating around online for some time. A friend of mine made a version with a polar fleece backing. While the article doesn't mention the need for a backing, I would totally suggest it if you don't want to make your scarf double-thick. The Crime of Fashion scarf at Magknits is another example.
But this issue is cram-packed with interesting projects. Everything from making sourdough bread to extracting squid ink for squid ink risotto is featured on these pages. While I'm not sure I'm up for de-inking any squid, I'm definitely intrigued by the bright and fun Beach Ball Bench (so named because the stripes of color resemble a beach ball) and the candles from scratch.
One of the strengths of Craft is, I think, that it covers a wide variety of crafts. It encourages us to try new things and approach crafting as a lifestyle rather than just a simple hobby. With that in mind, I'm planning to try the woodblock print tessellations that are also featured.
Pick this one up as soon as it hits the shelves near you!
