Review: Imaginative Projects with Alterknits
Are you a seasoned knitter who is sick of the same old projects? Look no further with Leigh Radford's Alterknits book. I picked up this book a little while ago in the knitting section of an independently-owned bookshop, but it is widely available in stores and you can also order it online. This book is for the knitter who has mastered a lot of the basics and is ready to try something new. Many of the materials used in this book are ones that you wouldn't typically use for knitting: the Crepe Paper Crown uses crepe paper streamer rolls that you can find in a party supply shop; the Decoupage Dress Form project offers a use for all of those yarn labels that you have lying around.
The book also offers projects that you wouldn't typically find in a knitting book: a knit screen door with nylon upholstery thread, a rug made from recycled t-shirts, knit paper lanterns, and a felted bulletin board. The book offers enough variety so you definitely won't get bored, and it has enough patterns that you won't need to purchase another knitting book for quite some time. The book also includes a small notebook with grid paper so you are able to be creative and create your own patterns.
Also, there are ten creativity exercises to expand your knowledge of the craft and thought-provoking famous quotes throughout the book. If you'd like to learn more about Alterknits, please visit the book's official website: www.alterknits.net.
