I'd never thought of creativity and a competitive spirit going hand-in-hand, but I'm starting to think I'm an anomaly in this regard. In many craft groups, people are participating in craft challenges, wherein they compete to make the most creative, unusual, beautiful or interesting craft. There are themes set for each contest, and generally the participants vote on the entries.
Craftster puts on monthly Craft Challenges. Recent themes include the Queen of Craftiness Tiara (see snowwhitesuicide pictured here, with her "Royalty Runs With Scissors" winning entry), Footwear Face Lift, and New Life for Old Jeans. The current theme is Reusable Shopping Bags; if you'd like to participate, entries are due between the 1st and 5th of August.
