Vintage buttons are getting harder and harder to find as more and more people grow to appreciate the design and craftsmanship of old glass buttons. Luckily, a few companies are taking the old molds and casting new buttons for crafters, seamstresses, and button collectors everywhere to enjoy.

Check out this collection of vintage buttons (her site has several other pages that include new buttons) and then compare them to the plain buttons found on most garments today. Is it any wonder that the prices of genuine vintage buttons are on the rise?

But what, if you don't want to put them on your clothes, can you do with a new vintage button? Oh, the possibilities are nearly endless.

I've used a scrap piece of metal and some silver wire to turn this large art deco button into a striking necklace. Some buttons, if their shanks are removable, make gorgeous brooches. You can epoxy glass buttons to hair barrettes and add some luxury to your everyday hairstyle. Glass buttons can be incorporated into wire-wrap rings. You can see what else I am doing with my collection of vintage and new buttons here.
