I’ve often wished there were Venn diagrams that would show the overlap between crafters and fans of certain TV shows, movies and books. (Incidentally, I believe that the completely unscientific Venn diagram to your right is extremely inaccurate. The middle bit should be a LOT larger.) Firefly is one of these…I’ve made my share of Jayne Cobb’s cunning hat, as I’m sure a lot of other people have, but I haven’t noticed a huge explosion of Firefly-related crafts, unlike a certain book that’s coming out sometime near the end of July-ish. You may have heard about it…I think it has something to do with wizards? Something like that.
Of course, I’m joking, and eagerly anticipating the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on July 21st, as are a number of other crafters. The Mystery Stole 3 project (I ordered my yarn for it today. I am weak!) has built time off into the schedule for the week after the comes out, so as not to force participants into an indecision triggered nervous breakdown.
All across the web-craft-sphere, crafters have been creating Hogwarts House scarves (most common is probably a very close race between Slytherin and Gryffindor, with Ravenclaw trailing pretty far back, but I’ve never seen anyone doing a Hufflepuff scarf. Poor neglected house…), their own wands (from this tutorial) (designed by LJ user kaptinscarlet…if you make one, send a picture to him at c.barnardo AT btinternet DOT com so he can post them!), political stickers, fan shirts (both about the series as well as music groups mentioned in the books [Weird Sisters]) and far more projects, too numerous to list here, but if you know of any (including your own!) please leave links to them in the comments!
Speaking of scarves, I still owe someone one from around book six. I'd better get going on that, huh?
