Jessica Polka's crocheted sea creatures

prawn.jpg octopus.jpg

Jessica Polka crochets the most beautiful little sea creatures. The prawn and octopus shown here are just two of her many fantastic works. Others include sea urchins, squid, coral, jellyfish and barnacles. Some of her pieces are quite small and made into earrings and pendants. The texture and shaping is wonderful, the nubbly surface of crocheted fabric being somehow very evocative of the critters depicted. Best of all, for those of us who crochet, Polka sells her patterns on Etsy. There's one free pattern for a baby octopus available on her blog.

See more photos on Flickr, and learn about her inspirations and her creative process at her blog, Wunderkammer. Polka's interests extend beyond crochet: her latest creation is an embroidered illustration representing something that might be found in a science textbook.

See her Etsy shop to purchase patterns and finished items.
