Yay or Nay: Knitting with dog hair?
I always thought knitting with dog hair was a joke, but apparently not. I suppose there is no good reason not to use it, but it just seems to me you would a. need a dog with a lot of excess hair and b. need a lot of spare time and patience to spin it into yarn. Author Kendall Crolius has dedicated a whole book to the subject 'Knitting With Dog Hair: Better A Sweater From A Dog You Know and Love Than From A Sheep You'll Never Meet' which tells you how to collect, spin and knit with dog hair and which includes projects like a golden retriever scarf, a Grand Pyranees hat and a Samoyed sweater. She doesn't just stop at dogs, and also covers the merits of using hair from cats, rabbits and other long haired pets!
I suppose it's a novel way to keep a bit of your precious pet, which you can cherish once it's gone, but wouldn't a photo be as good?

In one of the KnitLit books, there's a story about a woman who knit with dog hair. It was all fun and games until an unexpected rain storm hit...and then she learned why knitting with dog hair is Not A Good Idea.
