Cinema Knitting: Purling and Popcorn

flick1.jpgThere is nothing like sitting down to a good movie with a bit of knitting in your lap. I first reached the Zen state of actually knitting without struggling while watching The Last Emperor on DVD (stopping when subtitles were on screen), and finally knew I was getting good when I managed to watch Amelie, read all the subtitles, and still completed a baby hat (ah the knitting-without-looking stage). So I am a big fan of Knitflicks.

If you haven’t heard of them then the idea is simple. Knitflicks are the UK’s first knitting group to meet in the cinema. They have been doing so for a few years now, meeting every third Saturday of the month at the fabulous Ritzy Picturehouse in Brixton, London. This Saturday the 18th of August at 11.15am they are screening the New Zealand rom-com Eagle vs Shark.

flick%202.jpgTheir goal is to “combine our passions for films and knitting in a new and unique way”, and anyone with sticks, string and a love of movies is welcome to go along and join them. They also meet up afterwards in the cinema café for a bit of stitching and a drink or two.

You can join their mailing list by sending a request to them at knitflicks@gmail.com, so you know when and what you will be stitching in front of.

I haven’t managed to make it along to one yet, but hope to soon as it sounds like a fantastic way to spend a Saturday. I just hope that juggling yarn and popcorn is easier than I think.

what a great idea! And as someone with attention deficit 'issues', doing this would make it a whole lot easier for me to get into films (and knitting!) ;)
