Second Sock Swap: How to be Second Sock Syndrome

second%20sock.jpgSocks are fabulous things to knit. The double-pointed madness of the three or four needles, the colour-changey rollercoaster of self-patterning sock yarn, and the thrill of watching the heel turn gracefully like a supermodel on the catwalk. Yet there is something that many sock knitters have to admit: yes many of us sadly suffer from Second Sock Syndrome.

When it comes down to knitting the second sock you have seen it all before, and quite frankly it is like sitting down to a film you just watched right after the credits end. Wouldn’t it be marvellous if someone could just finish the second sock for you? That way they get the first-sock thrills with none of the second-sock sameness. And that is where Second Sock Swap comes galloping to the rescue.

The idea is about as simple as it gets. Once a month sock knitters worldwide will swap their second sock. All you need to do is:
• Join the blog by emailing secondsock@btinternet.com
• Put your name down for the swap
• Receive the name and address of your fellow sock swapper
• Send off your sock and receive their sock
• Get knitting

Soon you could be teaming up with a fellow sock knitter from anywhere on the planet, with the added benefits of trying out new yarn that you may never have picked out. Once in contact you can negotiate whether you return the sock or they send you the first one, but by the end of the knit you and another lucky sock knitter will have a full pair of cosy hand-knitted heel huggers. You need never suffer from Second Sock Syndrome ever again. Hurrah!
