The delicate leaves on this silver pendant have been etched into the metal using an acid solution. I love the look of this, and wondered how to achieve the same look in my studio at home.
The first thing I did was talk to a friend with experience. Books are fabulous resources for information, but there is nothing like talking to someone with experience! Her biggest piece of advice for aspiring etchers is to work in a very well-ventilated area and to make sure there is running water available close by.
The supplies for acid etching can be found at almost any high quality jewelry-making supply store. I'll be asking around at FDJ Tool.
I'll also be using this website and this one as a source for more detailed information - including how to use overhead transparency sheets to transfer a resist to your piece of metal!
