Finnish mittens
Over in the LiveJournal knitting group, member Helena, a.k.a. ignorant_bliss, made these beautiful mittens. She used a traditional Finnish pattern called Kainuun kukkalapaset, which means flower mittens from Kainuu.
The mittens are made using nine colours of Pirkkalanka, a 100% wool yarn, and 2.5 mm DPNs. The fair isle method of colourwork is used to create the detailed pattern. As for the interesting cuff details, Helena describes how she accomplished this, and a commenter tells us that the technique can be found in the book Folk Mittens.
You can purchase the pattern to make these mittens at the Pirkanmaan online store.
