Browsing Craftzine the other day, I ran across a link to this fantastic cake. Made in the shape and colours of a Rubik's cube, this is a great idea of something to make for a party. Canadian blogger, Scribe of Dreams, asked his mother for a special birthday cake, and this is what she came up with for him.
Each of the three tiers of the cube is made of a different kind of cake, with the layers separated by tinfoil-covered cardboard and icing. Once the layers are stacked up, icing is used to draw the white lines marking out the squares. Six colours of icing are used to fill in the faces of the squares. Scribe of Dreams shows a real Rubik's cube being used as a model to get a realistic distribution of colours on the cake.
