Check out that dye job! This yarn has been dyed so that, as you knit a pair of socks, the red and the white will stripe with each other. And the blue, speckled with white, will look like stars.
Dyeing self-striping sock yarn is an interesting exercise. If you decide to give it a try yourself, check out this tutorial before-hand for some tips. I have some Knitpicks Bare to give it a try myself. To achieve the speckled star look, do not saturate that part of the yarn with dye. Hand-painting gives you a little more control so that you can dab on color and make sure some areas remain natural.
