The Vintage Sewing Reference Library is a non-profit organization devoted to publishing public domain vintage sewing and fashion books so that such resources don't fade into obscurity. They have a particular interest in providing this information so that those making vintage costumes can "make design and construction choices from knowledge, not ignorance."
Vintage Sewing Info is a the site established by the group. Gradually, the text of these vintage books is being uploaded so that people may have free access to the information. You can browse topic by decade (from pre-1900s through 1950s) or by category (dressmaking, pattern design, millinery, etc.) A list of works to be added is kept, and you can propose new items to be added or to be given priority so that they appear on the site sooner.
This site is a fantastic aid for anyone with an interest in making (or simply learning the history of) vintage sewing. Be sure to see the Links page for related resources.
