Wednesday Wearables: Altered Clothing

Picture%201.jpg

Altered Clothing: Hip Fixes and Transformations with a Needle and Thread is a book about, as the title reveals, altering your clothing to make each piece more hip. While what's hip is rather subjective, there's a lot of really cute stuff to be found on the pages of this book.

The one thing you MUST have to get through this book is an appreciation for modern, young style. The pieces are quite trend conscious.

That aside, this is an excellent resource book. The pictures are crisp and clear. The directions are detailed and cover every step of each project. And there are photos to illustrate each step along the way.

The sewing primer is a bit basic, but you don't need any advanced skills for most of the projects in this book. Most projects should be accessible to hand sewers.

I'm particularly enamored of the use of trims throughout these projects. As someone who browses the trim aisle on each and every visit to the fabric store whether I need to or not, it makes me happy to see an emphasis on trims as a way to spruce up older clothes and make altered pieces look finished.

Dive into your closet and then dive into these projects. You'll come out looking great.
