When it comes to sewing, 99% of the time I go for the most expensive pattern in the shop. It's not deliberate, but I seem to have a knack for being wooed only by the designer pages of the Vogue catalogue, hoping perhaps that the dress I make in £1-a-yard fabric from Birmingham Rag Market will actually pass for a Badgley Mischka original just because they created the pattern. Sadly, it's an expensive habit, with Vogue patterns coming in at about £13 a pop for the most exclusive ones, which include the fantastic 'Vintage Vogue' range of reproduction patterns from the 30s, 40s and 50s. Luckily, they're now half price at SewDirect.com, meaning the one-off vintage tea dress I dreamed of for a friend's wedding may be mine after all. Now I just need to remind myself how my sewing machine actually works...
