How to make a herbal dream pillow
Dream pillows were used in olden days for fairytale maidens to rest their heads on as they slept. Nowadays, they're just great for anyone with the sort of full-on, stressful lifestyle that leads to insomnia. We all know someone who could benefit from the luxury of a restful night's sleep, so a herbal sleep pillow makes a great gift that couldn't be easier to make.
Using the fabric of your choice (it probably helps to choose restful imagery, but go ahead and pick a monster print if you like!) cut two equal sized sheets depending on the shape you want your pillow to take, stitch along three sides of the material, then turn it right the side out. Leave an opening big enough to add your herbs and stuffing.

There are many variations on the herbs you might want to choose for your dream pillow, but most 'recipes' suggest 1 part Rose Petals, 1 part Dried Chamomile, 1 part Dried Lavender. You can boost the potency with a few drops of essential oil, and it's up to you if you want to add stuffing for extra comfort.
Once you've selected your herbal concoction, fill a mesh bag with the mixture, and tie off with a string. Next, place the bag inside your pillow and fill with pillow stuffing if you're using it...don't overpack as it needs air circulation to release some of the scents.
Finally, finish the pillow off by adding velcro to the open end. This will allow you access to change the herbs and flowers when needed or to wash the pillow itself.
You might want to present the pillow in a pretty organza bag - the perfect present for a stressed out friend!
