Here's one of thoese ideas that seems so obvious I'm surprised I haven't made one yet. A cuboid pin-cushion works fantastically as a squishy rubick's cube, and with enough craft felt you'll be able to knock one together in no time. (Bear in mind before you buy that you'll need loads more black felt than all the other colours!)
