How to: Make your own pair of Ruby Slippers

ruby_slippers.jpgWritten by Emily Tan: When watching the Wizard of Oz, every little girl immediately identifies the true star of the show - the Ruby Slippers. And who wouldn't want to go dancing down the yellow brick road in a sparkling pair of red pumps?

Well now you can make your very own pair with these tutorials we've found on the net. Whether you want to go authentic, or do your own modern take of the icnonic shoe, these instructions should help you along.

The real ruby slippers were covered in hand-sewn sequins. Here is a painstaking tutorial involving hot-gluing individual sequins one-by-one onto your chosen pair of red shoes.

rubyslippers1.jpgFor a less laborious alternative, this tute tells you how to create the shoes with any pair of shoes (not necessarily red), and lots of red glitter. The poster made this pair of shoes (pictured) for a little girl using this method, while EmmaB decided to make things a little more modern and glittered up a pair of high heeled sandals for her prom.

Once I decide just which red shoes I can bear to give up I'll be making a pair for myself!
