Crafting for Charity: new coats for old dogs

The Oldies Club is a wonderful UK charity that looks after pooches past their prime, giving them food, shelter and love until they find them a new home. Just like you and I, dogs need bit of extra comfort and warmth in their old age, so the club runs an ongoing project calling on knitters and dressmakers of all sorts to turn their talents to a bit of four-legged fashion.

The 'jumpers for dogs' are very valuable to Oldies Club, as they serve a dual purpose: as well as their more obvious role of keeping the dogs warm, they also send a message to potential new owners! The one stipulation the charity have on designs is that they ask knitters to work the message 'I need a home' visibly into the garments, so that passers-by will see that the dogs need new homes while they're being walked in public places.
