We celebrate international crochet day

Today being International Crochet Day, our resident crochet expert Katie had a good attempt at getting us all hooked. Here she is en route to our lesson, crocheting on the train in honour of the occasion.
Before we got started, some members of the office had to be bribed with pizza. But before long, we were all making our first chains, rows and eventually, squares. As someone who loves crochet as an artform but is pretty rubbish at anything 'fiddly' I was slightly apprehensive, but determined to crack it, and after several failed attempts, finally mastered the pesky treble stitch...
Tech Digest's new editorial assistant Duncan also enjoyed the experience, and confessed that this was not what he had in mind when he applied for a job as a tech journalist, but was sure he'd learnt a valuable life skill: 'I think it'll be enormously useful the next time I'm stuck up a mountain with a dead sheep', he commented. 'I'll be the only member of the group able to crochet a blanket to help me survive the inclement weather!'
As for me, even though it took a humiliating amount of time to get over the first hurdles of casting on, slipknots and finding a hook I could get on with, I have to say I am proud of my tiny creation. It looks like it might make a good scarf for a Barbie or teddy bear, and I'm hoping to at least be able to crochet a tiny hat by Christmas.
