How to make embedded bug soaps

bug_soap.jpgFancy having something creepy and crawly in your soap? Bug soaps are endlessly popular with kids, and they'll give you infinite 'attention to detail' points when placed in the bathroom at halloween. It's surprisingly easy to 'embed' a spider or other bug in a soap once you've got your basic mixture ready, either home-made or bought in a kit.

Follow the jump to find out how to trap the bug of your choice in a soapy prison...

You Will Need:

* Fake Bugs
* Clear Melt & Pour Soap Base (Clear Glycerine or Hemp Seed Oil work great)
* Bath & Body Safe Fragrance
* Bath & Body Liquid Colorant (optional; do not use powdered colorants such as micas)
* Soap Mold
* Microwave-safe dish or measuring cup

Cut the soap base into chunks and microwave in the measuring cup for 30-second increments until completely melted. Stir in your favorite fragrance and liquid colorant. Powdered colorants will cause your soap to become opaque or cloudy so that you won't be able to see the bugs! Pour the soap base into the mold and add the bugs. Try pushing the bugs toward the bottom of the mold with a fork. They may try to float to the top. Allow your soaps to cool completely before removing them from the mold.
