Pimp my cottage: crafting on a giant scale

pimpmycott.jpgMost of us can only dream about getting our creative teeth into a project quite this sizable, but artist Richard Woods was lucky enough to have a whole house to play with when he was asked by the Forestry Commission to take part in renovating a group cottages set in ancient woodland. Woods made full use of the opportunity, coating the old houses in daring, retro designs that give them a fairy-tale like appearance. His 'Stone Clad Cottages', which opened to the public a week ago, are already generating quite a buzz.

The cottages look like their bricks have been painted, but in actual fact, it's an optical illusion: the 'bricks' are painted on to wooden slats.
