DIY AND HOME: Bright ideas for lampshades

lampshades 2.jpgEver since I was a kid I've enjoyed exploring the potential of the humble lampshade. Of course, this started with scrawling on the side of my parents' carefully-chosen, pristine white globe lanterns, and progressed to turning them into hot air balloons with dangling baskets...but there's loads more you can do to transform shades of all sorts into stylish and interesting new objects. I spotted these two projects elsewhere on the web this week, and was impressed by their simplicity: shown top is a re-vamped shade by Katie at Good Hooking who used paper from a Victorian arts and crafts book to transform an old shade, bottom is by the crazy folk at The Selby who made a stylish shade by stitching teabags together.

If you'd like to get in on the action, there are some great tips on transforming lampshades of all shapes and sizes here.
