How to: make a Christmas surprise ball
This fun idea from Go Make Something is a crafty and thrifty alternative to wrapping paper that's particularly great for hiding small presents. The 'surprise ball' should end up the size of a small melon, consisting of several layers that are great fun to unwrap. This one was made using silk, lace, old paper scraps and string, but you can add any other materials you like, as long as they can be held together by the yarn layer at the edge. Full instructions are here.
