While born-again knitters certainly do exist, I've got to admit that most of the really talented crafters I know where taught their art at a very early age. Not having a handy local grandmother, I wasn't so lucky. So I'm all for starting them young!
There Are Cats In This Book, a lovely book by Viviane Schwarz will help develop crafty skills from a very early age.
Once you've enjoyed the story, which works on several levels and is enormous fun, you can learn how to knit a cat, presumably with a bit of help from an older relative. The online patterns make the book's protagonists - Tiny, Moonpie and André - who love wool to tangle with, cardboard boxes to hide in, pillow fights ... and fish!
The book is suitable for childern aged 3 and above. If you're as charmed by it as I am, you can pick up a copy for £6.49 at Amazon, or for $11.55 here for American readers.
