Contemporary jewellery by Julie Hannay
Perspex is one of my favourite materials for jewellery, which is one reason I was drawn to the cool, contemporary designs of Julie Hannay, whose collection includes rings, pendants and brooches made from all sorts of other materials, too. On discovering she was a local girl, I decided to ask Julie about how she works and what inspires her.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Julie's main passion and inspiration is colour. 'It drives the design of most of my jewellery', she told me.
As for materials, the perspex that drew me in is only part of the mix that Julie prefers to work with: 'I choose to work with semi-precious gemstones finding colours I want to work with from all over the world and mixing them together with modern silver chains and perspex shapes to create modern, wearable jewellery for women'.
Another important element of Julie's brand is its home-made, indie style. A keen illustrator, she allows her own drawing style to influence the shapes she cuts, and built her own website with hand-drawn clip art to keep the look sketchbooky and loose - in keeping with her jewellery style
All jewellery in the collection is made at Julie's workshop at home in South London and sold in the UK through the website and through galleries (currently at the Shire Hall Gallery, Staffordshire till christmas).
