Ever since a 'good friend' thoughtfully sent me an anonymous valentine's card during my single years when I was hopelessly anticipating one from a would-be suitor, I've had an awful lot of sympathy for those who aren't looking forward to the day itself. So today is dedicated to 'alternative' and anti-valentines crafts.
A much kinder token of sympthy for a friend who's unlucky in love would be this 'make your own valentine' doll I spotted over at Craft Stylish. I actually think he looks a lot like Jermaine from flight of the Conchords, so consider it a multi-purpose pattern! Follow the jump to find out how you can make him! (geeky specs optional)
Here's what you'll need to make the yarny man of your dreams:
• A large, 100% wool sweater, felted down in the wash
• Craft scraps (I used felt and fabric paint, but you can use any sort of fabric, button, or embroidery)
• Embroidery floss or yarn
• Scissors
• Paper
• Typewriter or printer or pen
The cutest thing about this pattern is that it advises stuffing the toy not only with old pieces of sweater, but also with valentine's wishes. It's a lovely idea that's making me go a little bit bleary-eyed, so I'd better direct you to the full instructions which are here.
