The great thing about denim is it continues to be hard-wearing and versatile even after it's gone beyond the point of being wearable. It would be an absolute crime to throw anything made out of denim away in my opinion, because there are so many clever uses you can put it to, and most are dead easy, too!
I recently saw a fantastic wall-hanger (pictured left) that had been made from the pockets of old jeans, and that got me thinking about how many other uses there must be out there for using old jeans. Follow the jump to see what I discovered...
1. Wall hangers
If you want to make an organiser to hang on the wall (great for keeping craft supplies tidy) then this is a very simple project. Simply detatch the pockets from a dead pair of jeans and stitch them on to some tough fabric.
2. Hot pads
A weird but wonderful project that's perfect for helping you survive a harsh, credit-crunched winter! Simply cut off one half of a jeans leg, sew up one end, and fill it with rice or dry corn. Sew up the other end of the leg, then microwave whenever you need a quick dose of heat therapy.
3. Make a jeans quilt
Using patches of denim in different shades makes a fantastic basis for a jeans quilt. There's a tutorial here that tells you everything you'll need to make one.
4. Make a denim apron
Aprons need not be prissy, girly affairs: they can be tough as old denim, too. Turn your jeans into a useful overall by following this pattern from My Byrd House.
5. Make a jeans handbag
