Commnunity midwives in Liverpool have been overwhelmed by a barrage of knitted boobs after they put out a request to knitters for replica breasts to help teach new Mums how to feed their babies. Until now, Mums who needed to express milk (a skill that becomes especially important if a baby is premature) had to learn the necessary skills using prosthetic breasts that are expensive for hospitals to buy in. The knitted breasts are therefore a very valuable teaching tool.
Although volunteers and friends of the hospitals involved have been knitting furiously to make enough wooly breasts to satisfy demand, more are needed. You can find out how to make a pair of your very own, here.
