Make something lovely

Thumbnail image for lovely.jpgOn 8/8/08 writer Amy Krouse Rosenthal turned up in front of a sculpture called The Bean in Chicago and made several lovely things with the help of a crowd of hundreds of strangers.

The things she made were the start of her 'Beckoning of Lovely' project. A "testament to the power of community, cooperation, and hope amongst strangers in the name of all things lovely" She began by making a video called "17 Things I Made" and ended inviting people to join her at the Bean on the 8th to create the 18th thing.

The result is an inspiring and ever so lovely video where strangers "make a splash", "make an entrance", "make something pretty" and "make someone's day" amongst other lovely makings

Amy now has bigger plans for her lovely makings and that is where the rest of us may come in. She's making a full-length film with her army of 70 makers of lovely things have been chosen.

The blog promises "We are just days away from posting the details about several easy and fun ways you can be part of-actually IN-the feature film from wherever in this world you are perched. Further instructions on their way...in the meantime, get prepared to sing a theme song, do a line dance, color a picture, and/or play Heart and Soul on the piano."

Making something can obviously make more difference than some people realise. We can't wait to find out what's next on the lovely journey. And if you don't take part it's certainly enough to make you want to do something different.
