Not everyone is lucky enough to have a friendly local granny who's handy with needles, so I rather like this idea that allows you to take advantage of the years of knitting experience held in the brains of otherwise-unemployed older women and have them make whatever you like - for a small fee.

This isn't the first time such a service has been set up - Swiss-based NetGranny has been selling 'specialist socks by seniors' for a while now.
