How to: knit jewellery with wire

Gold-wire-ring-001.jpgIf it's stringy and you have the imagination you can knit with pretty much anything. String, plastic bags made into yarn (plarn), old t-shirts, strawberry licorice, you name it. It's just about having the confidence to step outside of the norm. Something that Guardian craft queen Perri Lewis does exceedingly well. This week she is knitting jewellery with wire and the results are ever so fabulous.

As with all other Guardian crafty how tos they explain how much it costs, what you need and where you might get it from, and how roughly how long it will take. The full tutorial is on the Guardian site.

Perri also explains how she learned her new ninja wire-knitting skills from one of the ladies she visits at Age Concern through the Guardian's volunteer scheme. Which, yet again, highlights just how cool that older generation is with their years of crafty experience and how both sides can benefit from a bit of volunteering goodness too.

After all, there's no better way to learn a craft than from a master.
